Kein Tag ohne Linie

"Vor dreißig Jahren wurde ich als Architektin ausgebildet, und ich fühlte

mich verpflichtet, Linien mit einer klaren Bedeutung zu zeichnen, Linien,

die als Symbole Grenzen von Formen oder Räumen festlegten, die aber nie

ein Eigenleben hatten.

Viele Jahre später entdeckte ich den Charme der Linie an und für sich -

sowohl der Linie im Raum als auch der Linie, die auf eine Oberfläche gezeichnet

wird; genauso wie das Nichts zwischen den Linien und das Funkeln,

wenn sie sich kreuzen, wenn sie unterbrochen sind, wenn sie verschiedenfarbig

oder verschiedenartig sind. Ich entdeckte, dass manchmal das,

was zwischen den Linien ist, genauso wichtig ist wie die Linie selbst."

No Day Without a Line

'Thirty years ago, I was trained as an architect, committed to draw lines with a

definite meaning, lines that determine forms or spaces as symbols of limits,

never with a life of their own.

Many years later I discovered the charm of the line in and of itself - the line in

space as well as the line drawn on a surface, and the nothing between the lines

and the sparkling when they cross, when they are interrupted,

when they are of different colours or different types. I discovered that sometimes

the in-between line is as important as the line by itself.'
